Tifway 419 Bermuda :: [Order] Tifway was selected and tested cooperatively by the United States Department of Agriculture, the Georgia Coastal Plain Experiment Station, and the US and Southern Golf Associations. It is a chance hybrid between Cynodon transvaalensis and Cynodon dactylon that was released in 1960. First named Tifton 419 while being tested and later upon release, named Tifway. The name, taken from Tifton and fairway, indicates one use to which it is well suited. Golf clubs using Tifway for fairways and tees report that it is excellent for this purpose. Many homeowners have been enthusiastic about Tifway as a lawn. Thus for lawns, fairways, and tees, Tifway is superior to other bermudagrasses. Tifway also makes an excellent sports turf for fields, where sports like soccer and football are played.
Quickstand Bermuda :: [Order] Quickstand was selected from a native stand of bermudagrass at the Plant Materials Center in Quicksand, Kentucky and has been evaluated for turf by Dr. A.J. Powell of the University of Kentucky since 1980. Quickstand bermudagrass stands out for its vigorous growth, extreme winter hardiness and thick turf establishment while maintains very good turf qualities. Believed to be a true common bermudagrass, it may produce very few viable seeds. Quickstand is drought, heat resistant, salt tolerant, a densely growing medium to fine textured, leafy bermudagrass. Quickstand has a very vigorous lateral growth rate which allows quick recovery from damage making this an excellent grass for athletic field and golf courses. It is becoming a favored turf in the transitional zone due to its excellent winter hardiness, good turf characteristics and aggressive growth. Charles Williams was the first to use Quickstand in a commercial application.
Vamont Bermuda :: [Order] Vamont was first observed spreading as a vigorous turf type bermudagrass on a golf course fairway in 1972 by Dr. A.J. Powell, turf Extension specialist , VPI & SU. The bermudagrass was tested at the research center. It was released in 1980. Vamont is a hybrid bermudagrass cultivar that exhibits vigor and attractive medium green color. It has proven its usefulness on athletic fields, golf courses, home lawns and turf areas where climatic conditions require a vigorous winter hardy turf variety.
Meyer Zoysia (Z-52) :: [Order] Meyer zoysia is an improved strain of Zoysia japonica. It was selected from a population of plants grown from seed by the USDA in 1941. The selection was named in honor of Frank Meyer, a plant explorer for the USDA. Meyer is slow to become established and must be propagated by sod or sod plugs. Once established it develops a very dense turf and is very cold tolerate. Meyer is well adapted to the transition zone. Meyer zoysia is the standard by which all other zoysia varieties are measured.
Turf Type Fescue :: [Order] Our turf type fescue is a blend of varieties selected from Pickseed West of Oregon. We have a small percentage of bluegrass in our blend. These varieties selected from Pickseed were chosen for their dark color, disease resistance and all have a high endophyte. We recommend the turf type fescue for shaded areas. It will grow in full sun with adequate water. Our turf type fescue is recommended for home lawns, golf courses, parks and other turf areas where a tough turf with outstanding maintenance characteristics is needed.
